Image
Image

oh and tra daaaaaaaa

Image

yes engine is finally in :)

and running for the 2 secs i had it going (no manifold on lol)

fitted the cams aswell

started polishing it tonight to see what the difference would be and its coming up quite good

using MeGuire's stuff and theres a vast improvement but there is a few marks here and there that will need to be sorted after pvs that scratch remover wont take out lol

Image

Image

well on with some more work today

went on a 240mile trip for some suspention as the front and rear passenger sits lower than the driver's side

fitted the rear set and still sits the same (confused)

any ways next job

fit rear bumper - all went well

next - rear brakes were corroded so had new spare's so put them on

next - drivers front gator renew - (also had a ******ed drive shaft )
on the up side had a spare equal length shaft with perfect gators so fitted that

changed the headlights over to the smoked ones

and started on the exhaust

and thats the hieght of todays joys

tomorrow

try get a drop link + fit

weld and hopefully finish temp exhaust

well was told they were off a calibra i knew there would be a difference but didnt think it would be much lol

its more like 60mm so its deff too low (then again its on the 18" so not too sure )

doesnt look like ill get much done today as its raining :(

anyways more pics

difference in height + new discs
Image
Image

side shot Image

well the exhaust has arrived :)

Image

Image

a little update for yous all :)

got the exhaust on it the other day but was still blowing a little at the front

so todays task was to pull it off and weld it properly

so got that done :) yeayyy

sounds quite tinny (2'nd box seems to have been cut open at some point so possibly the exhaust stuffing taken out )

(will need to order some exhaust silencer fibre and put some in it

2nd job of the day was to fit the hid's and wire them back up

3rd fit the other fog light

4th replace the rear subframe bushes

got all of them done thanks god

breaks arnt the best so gonna price new pads all round and possibly replace the rear calipers

will put pics up in a sec

well today's plan was to drop kirsty off at work then drop kids at school at 9

then get the keys for the unit and go start out on the cav

-it never went to plan my bro had a corsa that he wanted to put a years ticket on it so

had to swap 2 front wheels for 2 with decent tyres

seal the exhaust

wash the engine bay

and fit a head light bulb

which took me till around quarter to 1

picked kirsty up at one and dropped her off home then headed to the unit

Finally !!!!!!!

so first thing first

BRAKES- the other day there the brakes were sh*te to say the least

noticed there wasnt much contact on the rear brakes - so replaced the pad's and its much better

waiting on the droplink so thats on hold :(

next was to look round the cav for anything mot able to fail

drivers side inner arch was a little scabby so off with the plastic liner and started prodding and left this

Image

so out with the grinders -lets see how bad it is

Image

made a plate to fit

Image

clamp it and bent it into position

Image

started welding

Image

Image

finished

just needs a patch the other side where the engine mount is and thats that sorted

drivers side rear inner arch need's a little plate made up

Image

them my phone died so couldnt take any more pics :(

so tomorrow is to finish off the welding and sort stupid bits like the squint bumper rear box needs an inch taken off the pipe where it joins to the centre section for a neater finish on the tail pipe nearer the bumper

and any onther bits i find wrong

not sure if i want to remove the side skirts just yet or wait till after the mot which is looking more like sat due to funds

but ill keeps yous all updated :)

thanks gilly

Image

well that is todays efforts so just one more wee bit to weld and that will be it but need to take the petrol tank off to get into it right so thats tomorrows job hopefully

also put standard rear springs on the rear and its sitting reallyyyyyy high lol

Image
Image
Image
Image

well since i bought the wrong ones the last time ive just bought a new set cant wait to get them fitted

Image

by the looks of it who ever had it after wilts has used and abused it well and truly the last owner took a let engine out of it so was prob thrashed to be honest

when we got it

the central locking was playing up

elec windows didnt work

drop link was burst (usual wear n tear)

drivers inner cv was basically disintegrated

so god knows although in good hands now

and all is working again

Image

Image

well update time i think lol

cav went in for mot on tuesday morning went and picked it up at 12

it had Failed on the following

1.nearside front tyre below legal requirements of 1.6mm

2.nearside rear tyre cord showing on inner of tyre

3.offside rear tyre below legal requirement of 1.6mm

4. front windscreen insufficient spray

5. rear exhaust hanger missing

6. rear floor pannel corroded

7. front passenger seat insecure

8. Park Brake below legal requirement 12% legal = 16%

9 . exhaust emmisions excessive carbonhydrates (ppm = 2500)

(the bit i found funny in the advisory's )

front + rear suspention has been lowered . too low to put on braking system

(HOW did they test the park brake then ?? its locked 4wd ) lol

so yesterday i got the welding sorted

passenger seat the last person chewed the bolt so a little weld took care if that

took the injectors out of the astra (cream injectors) and fitted them and put some redex in it

sorted the rear hanger and put the rubber mount on it

tyres i got sorted today

also our new squre tooth cams arrived today so fitted them aswell they were already adjusted to i left them at that and seem to make it run better

so tomorrow is basically sort the window washers and that should be it

i cant fault the brakes it sits on the hill at the unit with me and my bro trying to push it and it wouldnt budge so i dont know where he got the 12% from

if he couldnt test it on the rollers + will have to ask tomorrow how he tested it as its 4wd permanent so couldnt test the park brake without putting it on the rollers to get an accurate reading of 12%

i got the tyres sorted today its cost us a little more than expected

i know alot of people disagree with partworn tyres but i dont have the use of another car anymore so part worn's it had to be . but saying that i went to the place up the road with my depth guage and eventually found 4 tyres with 4.5mm tred lol.

so tyres are 205/55/15 all with 4.5mm tred fitted + balanced for £100 something i could have done with out paying tbh

anyways heres some pics

Image

Image

and the bit that needed welded usual cav

Image

although he must have been prodding because if i had of seen that i'd of repaired it before it went in

thanks for reading

gilly

holly and jessicas painting day

Image

yeah i know what you mean matt ach least its welded now so its safe

well last night heading to work the cav decided nahh i dont like water and spat the dummy out with the water

i had a funny feeling it was a core plug that i had repaired that had a hole in it

so thanks to adam he towed me back to work where it stayed the night

called around vauxhall for a core plug (it could either be 34mm or 36mm)

so middlesborugh (sp) had some in stock this morning so called adam and he kindly said he would go get me them

phone call later from adam i cleared them out of core plugs for the xe

so i now have 4 36mm core plugs spare and 10 34mm core plugs spare lol

so stripped the inlet mani off and true enough that was the problem got it replaced and built back up and its on the road again :)

so a massive thanks to adain for all this help and taking me home

also got our boot off of dervabus : thanks mate and was nice to meet you and put a face to the name and hope to meet you in the future

the boot is satin red but it will look better than the silver does at the moment and is rust free :)

kirsty took the car home and i drove my dads zafira she passed with a face like below lol

Image

Image

Image

4 snapped valves 2 bent valves 2 pistons ******ed + main crank pully woodruf key snapped

not too bad

just aswell ive a spare redtop lol

so after going to the cruise it still wasnt running right so was a strip down job again yesterday and is now running good again we think the crank sensor had went aswell

my poor engine lol

Image
Image
Image
Image

some updated pics from a few weeks ago will get some new ones tomorrow with her new screens and wind deflectors fitted :)

Image

Image
Image

Image
Image

Image
Image

was also bidding on a set on ebay so now have 2 sets lol

well polly bush arms are on way for her

Image

well got a few bits for the cav tonight off of specks

1. oil/volts guages again

2. trip computer (in better condition than mine + switch and stalk and 4x4 switch

Image

3. also got a rear window blind aswell been trying to get it off of mark for a while and after plenty of nagging to him lol

well time to restore this 4x4 i think

every rainy day its misting up inside so wanted to check the floor pan

so all the seats removed

centre console removed

and some pics for yous

(drivers floor pan )
Image

(drivers rear)
Image

(passenger front)
Image

over all the floor pan is in really good condition

both rear corners have been repaired but then filled with filler ??(why i dunno)

passenger pan is actually the best condition

drivers needs a little weld

and my most fear that i think will need a strengthening is the bottom of the bulk head is cracked at the drivers side

so next step is to get the dash stripped out . i think the leaking is coming from the corners where the wiper motor sits so going to give that a clean and re seal it all

any ways ill keep the updates coming

well she is now sitting likt this the now was only suppose to lift the carpets and seal up any wee holes that wernt and were ment to be there lol but it has resulted in this lol

Image
Image
Image
Image

well some pics of the new wheels with rubber on them

guy was selling 4 honda alloys with tyres 205/50/15 for £80 quid all with 5/6mm tred

so went and got them got the tyres changed over then looked at the size 205/60/16 DAMMMM

but it looks ok they are a little chunky but will do for now

Image

Image

also got the bits that needed welded inside yesterday

3 patches on the bulk head ( 1 big one you can see and 2 1"x3" bits on the other side

then a 1"x3" to seal a crack on the floor just beside the passenger side seat ancorage point then the usual patch where the rear floor pan meets the part that goes up at the seat

so all sorted again now time to put it back together :) the joys

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

new shoesssssss i now have 12 of these lol

well no real way to say this we did want the cav to be a pvs but with things going on and me cant be bothered the cav wont make pvs 2013

but when yous see the pictures yous will see why

the welding it needs isnt that bad but give me time to do it proper and not rush it

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

the rear axle is partly off ill take more pics when we come back from pvs :)

well rear axel and fuel tank off and some prodding found the chassis leg to be worse than it looked

heres the pics

heres some pictures of the poor girls rear end

Image
Image

Image

click on the pics to make them larger every time i upload them they go super size lol

but all is not lost :) i found a mint chassis leg on a calibra that im getting cut out tomorrow for me (well full rear quarter)

so a wee refurb on the rear axel and a paint and make new tank straps as mines are hanging by rust lol

ill post pics up of progress

well finally picked up the calibra rear quarter part for the cav yesterday with kirstys dad what a tight fit to get that into his lol

anyways it was raining all day yesterday so time to make space in the shed and get the cali part in and start finding these spot welds

il jump out in a min and take a pic

the guys at the yard didnt even take the axel off and cut threw them :( was well disapointed to see that looked a decen rear end aswell

well thats were we are up to with it at the moment as kevin is doing a corsa conversion, then an astra coupe upgrade then an astra van redtop conversion so should be getting done after that cant wait just need to order the sills aswell

Some really great work hun!
Never read up much on the cav's but I knew that the inside was identical to a calibra and it really is. Keep up the good work!

I've just ordered angel eyes for my calibra too. I think the rings look amazing at night!

Will be keeping an eye on this thread. Great read cheers ;)

Tc and have a good one!

nah the springs were just really low lol we changed them after that

and yeah its a locked transfer box all the 4x4 system is sitting in the garage at the moment and the gsi is sitting with its bum in the air waiting for the work to start kevins in the process of maybe building a jig so he can turn it on its side to do the work as it would be easier to get to to change the chassis leg and sills so once this corsa and jeep are out the drive we will be cooking with gas lol
