You're missing the point mate, there's absolutely no more work involved to remove & replace a 2.5 with another 2.5 than there is to replace it with a 3.0 or 3.2. The blocks & heads are identical to the 2.5 ones even down to every threaded hole in them to bolt the ancillaries to. Stick all 3 on the floor together & you wouldn't know which was which until you found the size stamp on the block.

The only ballache is when you're sticking a V6 in a Calibra that wasn't originally one (like I've done). With an existing V6 it's out with the 2.5, in with the 3.0/3.2 & turn the key.

Teejays was done in a day as his was a V6 originally, mines gone from 2.0 8v to 2.5 V6 to 3.2 V6 & that was ballache lol!

if you go down the 3.2 road youll need to get a piggy back ecu and get it mapped, why put a 3.2 in and run it on 2.5 management ? it wont run to its full potential

Steve, you don't need a piggy back ECU or a remap to run a 3.2 on 2.5 management. Sorry mate but it's advice like that that puts people off doing what is easily doable.

The 3.2 may not run at full potential off 2.5 management but it will run fine on it & will make the new owner of one smile like the Cheshire cat when driving away in it vs the 2.5 they left behind.

Please don't give wrong information mate, myself & others here who've done it can testify to the opposite!

i can give the right information mate i have also "done it "and have run both 2.5 management and remapped ece, Have you ? and advice like this isnt putting people off its giving them the full picture and letting them decide what is the pint putting a 3.2 in and holding it back using 2.5 management ?

i aslo disagree that your or any other 3.2 on 2.5 management will leave a 2.5 behind by any decent margin

That wasn't a dig at you mate, probably worded that badly as I should stay away from the internet after a few beers lol!

My point is that when a transplant to a 3.0 or 3.2 is suggested to anyone then it can be done without the "extra's". The 3.2 is a mahoosive improvement over the 2.5 even on the same management so what I'm saying isn't incorrect in the slightest. I'll happily outrun a 2.5 with my 3.2 on the same management because I have one & can compare it to what it was previously (I also drove Teejay's 3.2 before doing the transplant on mine & that was the icing on the cake for me).

Your piggy back ECU is also there as you've chosen to run the Drain on full Vectra pleniums, I totally respect your car & all the work that you have done on it but the fact remains that a 3.0/3.2 will run on 2.5 management & the owner who does the transplant will drive away & get that f*ck off grin on their face the moment they plant their right foot.

The actual engine swap with nothing other than what you started with transforms the V6, whatever you then decide to plough into it afterwards is a matter of choice to further enhance that future potential.

Does that make sense?

no it makes no sense why put a bigger engine at not have it run properly i drove mine on 2.5 management and have the RR print outs to show what a difference there is, a 2.5 with a chip and a set of cams will be as fast if not faster than a 3.2 on 2.5 management

I don't entirely agree with your "not have it run properly" statement.

I agree that the 3.2 needs more than the 2.5 management can do to release the potential power & the Calibra manifolds are also an issue but sorry mate, the improvement over the 2.5 is more than noticeable the moment you drive away in it after the transplant. I've had a 2.5 for several years & a Vectra GSi 2.5 for nearly 5 years (before it was sold for a 330i instead). I've driven two 3.0 Calibra V6 conversions & two 3.2 V6 Calibra conversions & can absolutely say that they p*ss all over the 2.5.

I'm planning on having mine mapped at some point to get a lot more bang out of it, plus those manifolds if the guy on FB does come up with the goods, but the fact is that a straight & really simple swap from a 2.5 to a 3.0 or 3.2 will work without having to do anything else & will result in a very happy V6 owner!

That's fine then Steve, if that's your answer then obviously Teejay & myself are completely wrong that our 3.2's are any better than the 2.5's that they were replaced with, the fact that they're actually a damn site faster must be some kind of delusional myth that we've just become accustomed to!

Note to anyone now thinking of a 2.5 to 3.0/3.2 conversion, don't do it because apparently it won't work without spending £1000's on aftermarket stuff!
