Boot and interior light stay on - Why?

Boot and interior light stay on - Why?

by RodOGW » Thu Aug 20, 2009 9:48 pm

Both my boot and interior light stay on even when they are all firmly closed - I have had to pull the fuse so as not to have a flat battery in the morning. Also this is setting the alarm off as it seems to be being told by the lighting circuit that one or both of the doors or boot is open.
Any ideas what is happening and where is the boot light on/off.

Thanks in anticipation - Rod.

Have you checked the headlight switch is pushed in ?

Boot light is operated by a push switch in the tailgate.

Headlight switch definitely pushed in. I couldn't find the switch in tailgate as it was getting dark when I noticed the problem - in fact it was because it was getting dark that I noticed it. I will look for switch in daylight see if that is stuck in. But that still wouldn't switch interior light on.

I've pushed them in and out a half a dozen times and it made no difference. I think this will need daylight and locating the tailgate switch as that is the only thing I haven't checked.

Found boot light switch - or part of it - the plunger part that activates the on/off is missing????????????? Even when the remains were activated the light stayed on. However after removing switch and general cursing at it the interior light is now back to working OK - being activated by opening doors or dash switch. So a new boot light switch is required or at least find the missing part - or just do without a light in the boot - which seems easier.

I'd get a new switch. I think Andy (Phantom) might still have the car he's scrapping.
