ECU/Electrical problem ?

by Jamesyboy » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:41 pm

right guys, i dont wanna sound moany but i am gettin real annoyed with this. My eml is goin again. And its code 55 ecu again! But the only time the eml comes on is over a bumpy road. Last night i went all the way to edinburgh and back with no problems, and today i go to work the back roads and every big bump it comes on and the car jolts. Its highly annoying and i need to sort it soon! The other thing is, sometimes, lets say 1 out of every 10 starts, i turn the ignition on, and eml comes on as normal, then when i try to start the car the fuel pump relay buzzes at me, and the eml flickers too. Any ideas guys coz im runnin out. :(

allright mate...

ok,first off is ignition switch ok..remove cowl and wiggle with ignition on?
when you converted did you secure the earths for the ecu and engine and chassis are earthed well too?
and you may have moved or altered the injection relay(k68 )wiring...connections on this need to be good as air mass,o2 sensor, fuel pump etc are signalled from it.

the relay may also be dodgy...swap it if you have another?

basically a loose or bad connection. :o hopefully.(55 relates to faulty ecu)

right where is the chassis earth situated? ill go check the relay now. So do you think that any of the sensors you pointed out could throw this code up too? I have changed the relay and both do it. Cheers for the reply :)

going off the relay buzz, check pins 2 and 3 on that relay for good supply (or maybe a feed straight from battery and test like this)

moving on to the ecu:
pin 18 is a feed so check this (red)
pin 14 requires a good earth (brown)
pin 19 requires a good earth (brown)

looking at the wiring anything else would normally store a code, and even the pins ive mentioned would trigger other faults.but check them first and go from there.

i think k68 is in footwell near ecu,red,red/blue wires on it

yeah most people call it that.it isnt just the fuel pump it controls though .

did you check them visually or with an avo/multimeter?

i looked visually, but im not very electrical with things. Would a continuity tester do it ok to test the ecu pins?

pin 18 is actually a permanent feed to ecu(used for volatile memory..store codes etc)..pin 18 also feeds injection (aka pump)relay.
would explain no fault codes and occasional buzzing from relay.

But the fault code is 55 though, or is this what you are saying?

fault 55 is ecu has encountered a serious error or faulty...bad feed as ive mentioned to its memory is a possibility in my opinion...but as mentioned you have had a chip fitted and that maybe causing the 55 code.

which ecu do you have ?is the chip a push in?or are they soldered?

True, thanks alot for your help in this, and ill change it over after the rr day tomorrow, and i will keep you informed on the happenings.

I have the 2.8 PN code which is non immobilised and its just a push in chip...
