easy way to tell disc size

by stevo turbo » Tue Apr 19, 2011 7:22 pm

rite out of lazyness of not removing the discs to physically measure them is there an easy way to tell the size. i have the options of 284 or 288mm on the front (think they are 288 on the late models) and also 260, 270 or 286mm on the rear?

its a n reg turbo

your rite about the later models being 288 on the front, not sure about the 286 on the rears though i thought the later ones were 270 the same as the v6.
if i'm wrong no doubt i'll be corrected

Early models were 260mm rears and 284mm fronts.

Later models are 270mm rears and 288mm fronts.

As your tubby is a N reg you would be better off taking the discs off and measuring them :)

Slightly easier way is take the wheel off, them measure the distance from the disc hub edge to the outside of the disc, double that and add the diameter of the hub bit.

Why didn't you measure them first?
So what size do you need?

all calibras have 270mm rear discs, and between m,n reg cars there is a chassis break(when the fronts were increased to 288mm) so between those to years it is pot luck as to what was fitted at the factory,an easy way to check is to look at the calipers,284mm calipers there is a bigger gap between the caliper and the carrier, and the 288mm caliper sits in the carrier tighter less of a gap between the caliper and carrier

the fronts are 284mm but what i was meaning they didnt match the options that were put up 288 and 270 or 284 and 260. no one to blame but myself though :) they are away back this morning though and all the backs are now together
