Any issues relating to suspension, steering and brakes.

Have i got the right 'washer' on here?

by MadOnVaux! » Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:58 pm

Ok, these pics are obviously of the rear top mount, but can anyone tell me if that is the correct washer that is on top?

(Yes i know the nut isnt tight lol)

Some i have seen have had a shaped, sort of convex/cupped washer on the top, and as you can see, mine is a plain old flat one....and i have a feeling that is what could be causing my rear suspension to knock, as the metal sleeve in the lower rubber will be knocking up against that when the rear shocks move.

If possible can you all take a pic of your rear mounts and post them up so i can have a look too....very much appreciate it.

I'm sure it should be a cupped washer

NOTES:
Top Photo: The Newer Bushing Set to the Left, and the Old Bushing Set to the Right
Middle Photo: Shows the 'Original Top Mount Washer' before I started any of the replacements
Bottom Photo: Shows the 'Newer Washer' that I decided to fit instead of the Original Washer

I think using that different Top washer, didn't allow me to fit the bottom washer...
I might have to change this configuration again later on, when fitting the New Rear Shocks soon!!!

The top washers on your top pic eddey are the ones i have at the top of my shocks/under the lower rubbers...which, like you, i thought they may cause the clunking...but they should be there apparently...

But i have also seen a couple of calibra top mounts with those fitted at the top, but the other ones are different anyway??...i dont bloody know now! :(

Do the drive test where you sit in the back while someone else drives, and you feel for the rattle sounds...

That's how I was able to locate the Pest Rattle, in my Calibra...

But I'd say it's certainly got to do with the fitting of the Parts on there!!!

The only other thing i can think it could be, is that when the shocks are dropped down out of the top mounts, they are pulled straight over towards the back of the car, and I have to pull them back up so they'll go through the top mount....as if they havent been fitted properly at the lower mount?....I'll have a go at loosening the bottom mount so they drop straight.

If I'm interpreting this correctly, such movement indicates that the Lower Bolt either needs tightening, or them Lower Bushes surrounding the bolt are Kaput... :alright:

Nah its not like that Eddey...I can understand how you came to that conclusion, but the lower mount isnt loose, i just think the lower mount bolthas been tightened maybe wrong somehow.

The lower bush was new with the new shocks.
