Any electrical issues

Broken Electric Sunroof

by benperkins » Thu May 07, 2015 2:33 pm

Hello All :),

I have a 98(R) 2.0 16v, and the electric sunroof has stopped working.

I live in Bedford, England.

Does any one know where I can get it fixed please?

Kind regards,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Can you describe the fault? I am going by hearsay with the below but...

I understand that these usually fail because the gears become loose, so you should still hear a whirring.
When you remove the head lining, you see a mass of gears which are virtually impossible to align again.
The easiest way to repair is to replace the roof.
There are 2 different mechanisms: single & double wheel. These are not interchangeable.
The coloured panel is not part of the roof mechanism.

Hopefully someone will be along soon who has taken a better look at this before.

There are not any noises at all.

The sunroof is just stuck open (angled up) and won't do anything when I press the buttons.
Fortunately the rain isn't getting in.

Thanks

Ben

You might be lucky enough to just tighten the cap screw
above the round roof insert. If that doesn't work you'll
have to replace the full unit.

There is a way to manually close the sunroof, there should be a a hole in the roofliner with a cap covering it. Cant remember if its an Allan key or not that you can use to shut the sunroof but it will get it shut just now and stop any water getting in till you find a permanent fix
