Some pics of a wheel refurb I did today

Here's what I started with, some lightly curbed Type-R alloys. Aside from a few dents it's all that lets the car down. I spent a good few hours with wheel acid and a scrubbing brush getting off some of the worst baked-on brake dust I've ever seen.

The tyres had optional extra special metal bits sticking out of them (for grip on ice?) ;)

Anyway, off came the tyres and out came the chemical metal, I always mix in a little more hardener than usual as I find it gives a better result. I apply it by hand as well, as I'm good at fingering tight spaces.

I missed out some pictures here, but I etch primed the wheels first in grey.

Next they were rubbed down and coated with yellow spray filler, which also acts as a guide. I can't recommend this stuff enough to be honest.

After that dried, I used a second batch of chemical metal on the imperfections that show up. I find a metal file then 240 grit wet+dry are good for removing the buildup

Once I was happy with the finish I paint the rears of the wheels first. It just gets them out of the way so you can keep them facing upwards for the remainder of the job.

ZOMG it's gr33n! :thumb: Rover Tara Green to be precise. Haters gon' hate.

The front faces were next, working around clockwise sides of the spokes first, then anticlockwise to ensure an even coating. 3 coats all round.
Image

The key to the whole finish is to 1500 grit wet sand the paint after drying.

2 coats of clear lacquer and 4x Eagle F1's later...

Centre caps are still being done and it badly needs lowering, but you'll just have to wait for that! :thumb:

At least now i'll be accepted by other Honda drivers. Coloured wheels on a Honda is like wind deflectors on a Vauxhall. Gay as ****, but you have to have them for scene points.
