thanks for Dumbing it down for us chaps i will try that out tomorrow and report back asap :D

would it be as simple as just one wire that would need replacing or are we talking millions that still need checking?

if theres any bad connections on the pos and neg leads....try and start car...then feel the battery cables at both ends..if its a bad as you say it will be hot.

also while your there measure the battery volts while cranking the engine,actually on the battery posts,not the clamps.

Daft question time, have you checked the earth connections to the block are tight enough

right ive been out and connecred my jumplead to the battery and one of the lifting brackets on the side of the engine and...... It started slightly faster what does that mean then? It is the earth strap i just didnt find a good earth, or keep looking that wasnt it.

Sorry have you tried replacing the battery? If not I would try and borrow one just to see if it solves the problem...

On my 8valver I had a problem with my battery not holding a charge and it turned out to be a wire fromt he alternater had become brittle and broken down inside the insulation, replaced the wire and it was fine...

it's holding a charge Mike as i havent had to push it all week so the battery and alternator are fine, ive even swapped batterys over and it's draining
my multimeter should arrive tomorrow so i might have a play sunday as i need to Go to birmingham tomorrow and pick up some shiny stuff :D

holding a charge and having enough cranking amps is not the same thing, what does it say on your battery or better still go take a picture of it should have sticker on it

i put the lead on as you said and it fired up a bit quicker than it has been but im not sure i had a decent connection :(

saturday morning when i started it up to go Birmingham it had the same old flat battery but it just managed to start :D Drove all the way to Brum and back, parked it up for 24 hours
went out sunday expecting to have to push it as thats the longest i have left it and...................
Brooom started at normal speed like it was fit and healthy again :think:

i still have my ongoing lekky fault ive replaced a fair few things but my question for the day is

when a bulb blows can it still pull juice?
