want to have programmable intermittent wipers ?

by Fraz » Sun Mar 13, 2011 1:00 pm

Well since things are quite on here...just thought some of you may not know about this wee trick.

At the moment on a Calibra you do have intermittent wipers, but the time of this is fixed. So when its just a drizzle you may find it's a tad too quick, or if Its a bit heavier you need to actually switch the slow speed on and then find its a bit much and have to keep switching it off an on yourself

the solution is quite simple...how about being able to adjust the time delay for the intermittent wipers.

All you need to do is go to Ebay (or a scrap yard) and find a MK3 VW Golf or a Passat ( I also think in any mid to late 90's VW car) have them

VW part number is:- 357 955 531 but the easy way to spot it is it will have 99 on the top of it

Image

and then all you do is simply swap the Calibra relay in the fuse box for the VW one

Image

its number 35 in the picture

No to operate the programmable intermittent wipers is very simple

when its raining you hold the wiper stalk in the intermittent position (dont just switch it on and leave it there) when the window is clear, switch it off...then when you need to clear the window again switch the wipers to intermittent position and leave it there this time

then by some magic the relay remembers the time between you switching off and back on again and will now clear the window at that time interval, for as long as the wipers are on, if you wish to alter the time delay then just repeat the steps again ....it provides a 2 to 45 second wipe interval
