HID Headlights

by Pinner-man » Thu May 17, 2012 6:37 pm

One of my HID headlights has failed. I am not sure to replace it or go back to the standard dipped headlight bulb. There was some talk at the beginning of the year that a Calibra fitted with HID's but without headlight washers and self leveling would fail an MOT. I would be interested to know if anyone with HID's fitted has had an MOT and if the car passed. I would like to continue with HID's but if they are now an MOT failure what bulbs do you recommend in their pace.

Mine passed an MOT end of 2011 with them.

the new law came into force at the beginning of April, i've yet to hear of anyone who has failed because of them yet though.

My local MOT tester said yesterday that they were still applying the old beam height rules to all headlights. They were seeing and failing both HIDs and halogen lights that did not have the proper cut-offs.

My HIDs have excellent cut-offs so I don't anticipate a problem. The old halogen lights were dangerously bad in my view, I would hate to go back to them.
