Anybody got dodgy batteries around glasgow area they need disposed off, standard terminals for a high power battery, cally v6, fiat etc. promise ill take to recycling station when done with it

My alternators F++D and overcharging so will blow the good battery while its being driven to garage for a replacement unit.

charge the battery up fully, then take off the alternator belt and drive to the garage, obviously keeping everything electrical turned off.

could still blow the ECU without some type of battery acting as a capacitor. A half done battery still has some capacitance (i use two in boot of van to smooth signal to my subs !) better than having nothing in the circuit. its 10 mile drive where im taking cally, , and i need to do some revving and slowing to get a years crud of the disks, as well as blow some crap out injectors while im on the road there

no you wont blow anything, leave the battery on and connected as nromall fully charged, disconnect the alternator, it will be just fine for 10 miles

Sorry i misread that as disconnect the battery when driving for some reason (blame it on the hot weather :shifty: )

dont see why not just remove the alternator to battery live connector ?

you cant do that on a v6 as it runs the water pump and power steering pump not much hassel with the steering pump but wouldnt want to drive with out the water pump

just take the signal wire off the alternator so it doesnt engage so alternator wont charge bump start the car and off you go it wont charge but run as normal

dont take the belt off it runs the water pump on the v6

yeh i didnt quite fancy idea of running without a water pump ! Taking alt live of battery after starting engine, then taping it to somewhere with space or cables where it cant jump a spark, seems easiest solution.

thanks craig. Think on reflection, disconnecting the alt live is wiser. A duff battery might have more chance of exploding than a regular as they demand more current.
