Heater Control Panel

by Calibra_Mike » Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:04 am

I can't remember as its been a while since I removed the control panel but is it an easy job to replace the light behind the panel? or is it a case of removing the whole panel? I do remember that being a right pig of a job.

you dont need to take it right out but you will need a pair of tweezers or small nosed pliers to get the old bulb out
BETTER TO HAVE A CALIBRA AND NOT NEED ONE, THAN NEED A CALIBRA AND NOT HAVE ONE!!!

easy enough to replace...its what has to come off to get to it

1. remove the steering coloum surrounds
2.remove the indicator and wiper stalks (the slide out once you press the clips top and bottom)
3. remove the bit of trim below the speedo clocks by grabbing in the middle and pull it towards you, allowing the two ends to disengage (sort of bend it in the middle)
4. remove the clock/fuel computer or D.I.D
5. take off the top speedo clocks trim (2 screws one each side)
6. now remove the other screws holding the heater control panel . one at the speedo end and two IIRC in where the clock/FC/DID was

you should now be able to pull the panel forward enough to see two purple wire about half way along the top (do not be confused by the purple wires at the side)

using long nose pliers you can then pull out the bulb holder and change the bulb

If i was you I owuld get a led one to go in rather than just a normal bulb...i used this and works just fine

Well that was fun, just been on over an hour fitting the bulb time wasn't spent on the getting to it or the refitting the panel, but testing wires because it had no power to it.After half hour of testing I remembered the power didn't come from the sidelights but the ignition! but it's all done now and just waiting till tonight to see how it looks in the dark! :D

When I bought my cali I didn't know the heater panel had illumination as only ones that came on were the A/C, air circulation and rear de-misters buttons.
After having the bulb replaced by my mechanic.. The dimer slider (the one under the low/high beam switch) that controls the brightness of the gauges doesn't control the heater panel lighting at all. The heating/cooling slider, fan on off, air at feet, air at face and front de-mister/full air are always on if ignition is on. How can I fix this?? Is it the way the mechanic got the bulb to turn on and off? Ie the wiring?? Why can't I dim the Center control panel lights??

Thats how their wired up mate they work off the ignition and all the others work of the sidelights thus being able to dim them and not the heater controls!

It seems silly though that the fan controls and slider controls are not dimmable. So on all Calibras its like this?
