Well im telling porkie the cars now not even starting and baffling local garage, but this was the preceding situation, and I need codes to aid diagnosis or even figure is this ECU done. Just looking for an opinion on this idea really.

For years never get any type of code (code reader or paperclip) including regular and dash never lights when there is a problem, but v6 was always was a good runner. But now there is various running problems which is sensor like but lets not get into all that. have piles of diagrams for all various aspects of every part of the system.

If the loom is not done...(still to test) my idea is that if the car was working while the ECU is giving no codes. its version of todays flash ram is gone. So the ECU has still been putting out control signals (from internal rom values) in response to the cars sensor inputs, so this is why the car was able to run even though the ECU could not hold a code, and hence not present any type of code back out to dash or code reader.

Votes on plausibility... yes - no ? (or yes and no  )
