How do I drop the boost?

by DBV6 » Mon Oct 04, 2004 8:10 am

Last Wed dropped the kids at school and starting up again the alternator light was on.
No problems at all running, the faster I went the dimmer the light got, the more elecs I turned on the brighter it got.
BUT started fine every time and volt gauge in car showing healthy 14 volts always
Yesterday morning got in started up, the light's not on any more (apart from ignition on but not started as it should be)

Anybody any ideas?

Cheers

Sounds like your alternator may either be on it's way out or the belt isn't doing it's job.
Smurf (Neil) and some other V6 owners have had similar problems - was time for a new alternator.

When the light glows very bright its generally a new alternater required as dan says. the reason its not on any more is generally the bulb itself blows due to too much current coming through. The alternater has a regulater inside which is generaly the bit that goes get a garage to check the voltage/amperage that you are charging at and dont rely on the internal voltmeter
