Brake Upgrades

by TommyC » Fri Jul 08, 2005 11:27 am

Just doing a bit of market research for a mate of mine who's starting up a business called Works Motorsport.

http://worksmotorsport.com/ (site is still under construction)

Brake conversions for starters but hopefully building up a product range over time. Basically wondering how many people out there are interested in big brakes? We're talking 4pot calipers and anything from 280mm upwards disc diameter..... (Standard up to Monster!!)

We're just starting to develop a kit for the calibra. Anyone interested??

To start with he's looking at the 4pot callipers on standard discs, just to get the monting dimensions correct. Once that's sorted then i think a few more larger diameter kits would be on the way.

I think the kits will use the same callipers so buying the necessary bits to fit bigger discs at a later date wouldn't be a problem (what i mean is you wouldn't have to buy a whole kit again, just bracket's and discs).
I'll see if i can get some pictures of the bits and bobs off him....

Right, here's the kit for mk1&2 escorts etc.

Basically the first kit will use the same type of callipers and will use standard discs (prob V6/Turbo. Need to find out if these are gonna sell first). Kits will cost in the region of £300-£400.

There is the possibilty of up to 310mm diameter kits using bells and rotors but these will obviously cost more because of the rotors and larger brackets required.

Spent this afternoon playing around with the calipers trying to work out mounting dimensions etc. for making up brackets. Basically we need a bit more time fiddling about with the different discs to get it all right.

Can anyone tell me what year Vauxhall changed the V6/Turbo discs and how. I know it was quite late (around 96 i think) but more importantly, what did they change???

Was trying to figure out what people are most likely to want too. An upgrade to 288mm discs with 4pot's for the 16valvers, and just a 4pot caliper upgrade for V6/Turbo's?

Or would people prefer monster upgrades with bell's and rotors IRO 310mm diameter?? (only for those with 17" wheels or bigger!!)

They changed around 1995 when the chassis number went from R to T. Some say they changed on 96 but I had a 95 V6 with a T chassis.
