Warped disks.. again?

by DC 12v » Sun Jul 13, 2008 8:04 pm

Hey,

About a month ago I had my disks skimmed as they'd developed a shudder upon applying the brake. After doing so, they'd been fine until driving to the UK and back, where I find the warp has emerged once more.

Is this a case of poor quality disks?
Am I better off replacing the lot (disks and pads)?

Thanks in advanced

Jay

You should ways put new pads in when changing the discs as the old pads will have warn to the shape of the old discs and the new ones won't match.

Oh and hello.

Hey Mark,

I was advised that for the first 200km to brake easy and allow the pads to wear into a new shape, which I did.

I'd driven almost 800km before doing a 1200km round trip (with visits etc included) to the UK.

Is this not right?!

It could take longer, dsepending on the shape of old discs.

Hmm, at around 700 miles before leaving for the UK, I'd assume that was more than enough *sigh*

Still, better I know now than wait for the next set to play up. Thanks for the info.

Is it worth replacing everything now? I know I have enough width for one more skim, and then new pads on top - would that be ok?

I'd go with new pads and see what happens. Don't like skiming discs as they are heat treated if I remember right.

surely it would be cheaper to get new discs mate with pads skimming can weaken them and can make them warp quicker especially as you have skimmed them once already...

There's apparently a limit, 22mm or something, no less than that can be skimmed.

I'm still on 24mm, so it's safe according to them.
I think these are budget disks tbh, just "thrown" on the car for a sale.

Skimming is 8euro a disk, so I might just do it for now, and get a set of disks and pads after payday.
