V6 - Broken rear spring

by Mantaray » Wed Jan 28, 2009 10:13 am

Just had My V6 MOT'd and one of the things it failed on was a broken rear spring.

Trouble is, when I bought the car it had a PMC lowering kit fitted. I have no idea how much it was lowered, but comparing it to my mates, I'd say 30mm.

Anyway, I need a new spring.

Been looking on E-bay and there are a few kits available for the V6. However, one company advertising on there offer genuine new Calibra rear springs. Now obviously these are standard height. I can live with that.

The problem being, as far as I'm aware, the V6 is, as standard, lower than the 2.0. I asked the seller this question and they replied that Vauxhall only list 2 numbers for rear springs. 2wd and 4wd.

So, do I take a chance and buy them, and hope that the back end of my car isn't 50mm higher than the front, or should I bite the bullet and spend extra on the full kit, just for the back springs.

Or even better, has anyone got any lying around???:D

I would only change all 4 springs as you never know if they are going to match, I'd go for a new full set of springs and shocks if you need them.
Mark...........It's Red........It's a V6............It's an SE9!..............and She's bad.

Trouble is, I can't afford them. TBH I'm only keeping the car going till I can afford something cheaper to run. Personal circumstances have changed and a poss change of job mean that I'll be doing more miles.

All I need is something to get me thru the MOT and last a few months. Hopefully

Just had a reply back from another E-bay seller.

Apparently the V6 weighs the same as the 4 cyl 16V so the springs are the same...?????????

Normally I would, but I need the car for work and the MOT runs out on Wednesday.

I'll just have to bite the bullet and order the ones off E-bay......

I know the V6 as a whole is heavier than the 16V and the only difference is the engine (more or less). The V6 weighs 175 kg apparently. I doubt an engine with 1/3 the parts would weigh the same! (unless it was a diesel)

I can't believe sellers can say things like that and get away with it!

v6 and 16v springs are rated differently from each other the v6 is heavier at the front and are lower than the 16v, hope that helps
