Speed Related Noise.

by gazcallyt » Sat May 16, 2009 2:35 pm

Had a spot of welding done on the inner arch on the front drivers side, so we dropped the suspension leg off to do it, since everything has been put back together, I am getting like creaking grinding noise, but it doesn't sound metalic, I thought it was the abs sensor catching, but it wasn't that, the slower I go the louder it gets, and seems to do it more when turning, there are no signs of rubbing on the wheel or inner arch or on the mudflap, any ideas ?

Cheers

Probably the brake disc shield is rubbing on the disc.

and if it turns out not to be that then it's your wheel bearing, did you torque the king nut on the driveshaft properly

Had a look at the disc shield cannot see it rubbing anywhere, as for the king nut I did not torque it up myself, strange thing is it was quiet when I put it all back together and took it for a test drive, it was only the next day when it started doing it.

Stu,

That is what I'm going to do at the end of the week on a four poster, got a locked box on it now, so bit tricky with me jacks.

still none the wiser, put a wheel bearing in the opposite side, two new outer cv boots, tried to locate the noise while doing the above jobs, nothing has rubbed as there are no marks, the only things left are that wheel bearing or the the cv joint bearings, the noise is kind of like a creaking noise when you go slow, and it gets worse if you turn left or right.

this kind of thing needs to be heard really if its none of the usual culprits :(

any knocking? its not an antirol bar droplink gone and the rollbars rubbing on the shaft?

Stu,

your right its one of those noises that needs to be heard, no knocking, the anti roll bar drop link is fine, its a weird one, no signs of rubbing on anything had the disc off and looked all around.

UPDATE,

One cv joint wheel bearing and hub later, the noise has gone, I think it was the new wheel bearing that sorted it in the end.
