You could go for v6/turbo brakes which will take you up to 288mm discs. You can buy the 288mm drilled for 4 stud hubs. But the minimum size alloy you can use is 16in with these.
BETTER TO HAVE A CALIBRA AND NOT NEED ONE, THAN NEED A CALIBRA AND NOT HAVE ONE!!!

Same setup i have on mine and you can go as little as 15in wheels but it is tight as i have 15in cavalier slabs on mine but there is only about 3mm clearance

Wasn't 100% sure if the 15in fitted with the 288mm reason why I played it safe and said 16in

They bolt straight on no problems any v6 calibra, cavalier or vectra will fit you will have to change low brake pad wiring tho but the cables are cheap

With that little clearance, you may find that the variations in design of the wheel will take up this space.
A friend of mine upgraded his Lotus M100 Elan with Vectra V6 calipers (M100 Elans have mainly GM components & the original front calipers are slightly modified Astra GSi ones). He had Vauxhall 15" alloys on his & when he first drove it with the bigger brakes, he heard a 'tick-tick-tick' sound as the balance weights got knocked off.

This can be a problem with some wheels i had to shave the weights down and use more but as calidaz is using 17inch there will be no problems
