Carbon fibre Bonnet Group Buy!

by v6-calibra » Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:08 pm

Now some of you may think why bother but i have often thought of getting one and often see people wanting one!
Unfortunately due to the calibra parts not being in high enough demand most company's want $$$ for producing the moulds unless enough purchasers willing to do a group buy.

Now i got a price which was no where near what i was quoted about a year back but because they have had no orders of they have no mould, the price i was given was £1800+ VAT. Well beyond worth getting.

If i can get 5+ buyers then i can get this down to £495+ VAT

If anyone is seriously interested then put your name down and we will go from there.

The company making them PERFORMANCE TRIM were at Santa pod for PVS and there work is good and bloody hell you don't realise how light they are until you pick one up in the flesh (not a cally one though LOL)

So anyone?

Is that for the full bonnet or just the skin, and is that full carbon or carbon/glass? The company have been suggested on hear before and I am still interested if it were the right design but you are unlikely to get enough people unfortinately.

That doesnt make sense to me, I thought carbon fibre was really expensive, like grands. Specially for a custom made bonnet. How much weight exactly do you loose?

As mentioned in the top post the cost is in the production of the mould which is why it is necessary to get 5-10 orders to make these cost effective. £500 per bonnet is about right these days.

The bonnets are full carbon fibre and are like for like in construction compared to the original!

All the under strengthening as on the original calibra bonnet is also on the carbon bonnet ie in carbon not metal.

I did have an example on a boot where the carbon fibre (full was 2.4kg) or half carbon with inner fibreglass skin at 3.0kg

I already have a possible 3 names inc myself from other Forums

that would be weight saving, so if a bonnet is roughly 25Kgs and the Carbon one is 5kgs your saving 20kgs that your engine ain't trying to lug about, so in theory you will have quicker acceleration and also save fuel
