Rear Arch Opinions

by gazcallyt » Wed Aug 07, 2013 1:33 pm

Guys,

Had the rear arches replaced around three years ago, and now they are worse than ever, due to the poor prep the bodyshop did at the time, I only have the option of cutting these ones out and replacing, cannot source any original parts anymore (I can't find any) and looks like the only option is to buy non gen stuff to get it done, anybody had this job done, thoughts, opinions please.

Cheers

Spotted those on there from Poland, if I cannot source anything else, they will have to do.

a good sheet metal worker should be able to knock a rear arch out before morning break i would be taking it to a good body paint shop and tell them what you want done

Cheers guys, the lenk ones are slightly flared compared to standard not sure how they would look, like the idea of fibre glass though.

I hacked of the inner metal liner then ground down to metal on both sides. Treated with 3 stage clear, etch and epoxy seal. KBS kit... used that because they have engineered the sealing stage so nothing gets back into the metal.

Then aluminum sheet and fiberglass. If treated right the rust shouldnt come back, but you have to be careful not to sand into the epoxy seal when doing the filler layer.

Even a new arch put in is the same principle, has to be prepped so there is nothing in the metal to corrode internally, then sealed so its completely non porous.
