The Highland Tour 2011

by Fraz » Mon Jul 18, 2011 3:17 pm

It will soon be time once again to go on the Highland tour. The date of this will be the weekend of the 26th August and since it will be a bank holiday (at least for some) its handy if your coming along and have a bit to travel first, but we do aim to have the route all done over the weekend and be finished for the Sunday evening.

The route is just over 700 miles and will be taking in the Isle of Skye and taking a ferry there and back over the Skye Bridge. Apple cross viewpoint to Inverness and down to Braemar cutting over to the Trossachs and over the Dukes pass down to the finish in the Glasgow area

For those that have been before the B & B’s are already booked one at Fort William and the other just outside Inverness.

The route is viewable on Goggle maps

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=2 ... 5,8.349609

There is still time for anyone that wants to go along to get booked up at a B&B and there is a few websites that I have used to find ours

http://www.visitscotland.com/guide/where-to-stay/

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g186 ... tions.html

http://www.bookdirectrooms.com/

Or just do a Goggle search on Guest houses Fort William and then Inverness should bring up quite a few

This is open to anyone and in any type of vehicle so if you want to do this in your works van or on a motorbike then your most welcome to come along, and you can review last years tour in Total Vauxhall Magazine, the scenery and laughs are well worth the cost, and for a rough idea of the cost

Accommodation two nights approximately £30 per night is in a twin room (or about £45 with a single occupancy surcharge)

The one Ferry crossing is £25.25 for one car with driver or £29.30 with driver and one passenger

Food is going to be a take away at the B&B’s so your choice, but say £10 > £15 per night, a few beers perhaps with the meal but not many as you will be driving the next day

Lunch will be along the way at what ever place we can find, so pub, restaurant or chip shop so around the £5 > £10 region depending on the venue

Snacks and drinks during the day …I would suggest buying them before you go at the local supermarket

Other big cost will be fuel. This is a bit more expensive up in the Highlands but only by a few pence. The amount you go through is going to depend on your driving style and the vehicle used, but at a rough guide say 3 tank full’s and super unleaded is not that readily available up there

So let’s get some more people to come along

So far there are the usual people going... if you wish to attend then simply add your name to the list, if you want to know anything just ask on here and if we can help with getting a B&B we will try and assist as best as we can

Steve
Ally
Mr C
Richard
Rich30mex
Fraz (though not confirmed as yet)

for those going I have emailed an Itinerary of the route and the address's of the B&B's in a few formats

so the list is as follows and have managed to get the B&B's to accommodate the others that have said they will come along

Steve
Ally
Mr C
Richard
Rich30mex
Fraz .....................................Paid
Ian (Fraz's mate) ..................Paid
John Kerr

Now I will need your deposits for the B&B's sent over ASAP as I have paid for this using my card

The deposit is a total of £160 (£80 for each B&B) so could everyone get a payment of £20 paid...if you PM me I will let you know the details of how to pay
