re-fitting the cam belt as its not set correctly at the moment -plus some butcher has had a go with a chisel. but replacing the front crank seal and poss the rear so the belt will have to come off and will be fitted correctly (without the use of a chisel)

All looked good until the sump came off
Image
Image
Image
Image

After fitting the New front crank seal i dropped the oil which looked quite new then removed the sump pan and found white metal shell debris on the bottom and also in the oil pick up pipe strainer.
I then checked the con-rods for movement and found i was able to rock No 6 from side to side due to clearance. on removing the con- rod cap on No 6 pin - i found the shells where overlapped and the con- rod cap was damaged due to contact with the crankshaft web.
this damage has been caused by oil starvation, and would have caused excessive big end knock which would have been very noticeable whilst running.
So totally fubar'd

It is repairable (new shells for a start) but it won't be cheap and there wiill be alot of debris in the oil ways etc if the sump is anything to go by so I'm not going there.

While I was waiting for a new lump to turn up I got the suspension changed to a G-max kit

Body Kit fitted

by Teejay » Thu Jul 18, 2013 6:15 pm

Ok, so I finally secured a replacement lump, another Z32SE with 60k on the clock
Image
Few things to sort out
It has a none eccentric bottom roller so needs new kit as the Cally kit from mine won't fit.
Also has the wrong inlet divider in it so there will be a lip which will interfere with the induction flow but luckily I kept hold of the 3.0 Omega one I got hold of
First job remove the sump and check for issues - thankfully all looks good in there, no metal shards etc like the last one.
Image
He has found a couple of issues though. Firstly the heat exchanger plate has a hole in it and has been leaking coolant for some time.
Image
This isn't a major problem as I have a new exchanger to go on anyway but we removed the heads just to check for any signs of overheating. It means a new head gasket set but better safe than sorry
Image
Image
No obvious signs there although found a piece of plastic under the cam cover for cylinder head 2-4-6!!!
Image
no apparent damage except for the cam cover gasket but will be putting new ones anyway when the polished Veccy covers go on.
Due to the coolant leak also checked for any signs of damage to the plugs but they're clean as a whistle
Image
Next job was to remove the induction assembly and replace the heat exchanger which has seen better days. A hole in the heat exchanger plate had caused some coolant leaks.
No anti-freeze either so the water jacket looks a little ropey.
Image
bore sizes 0= standard size pistons - they are under the vent housing on the 3.2 & 2.6 older engines had them by each bore but it caused the cylinder head to leak if not filled with sealer
Image
Heat exchanger plate requires a liberal application of grey sealant.
Image
...and fitted
Image

Oil pipe connections top and bottom with new washers
Image
Image

New oil filter next
Image
New crank speed sensor next
Image
water pump and thermostat (note on newer engines you can fit the pump first before the backplate)
Image
new multi layer sandwich type metal gaskets as fitted to 2.6& 3.2 engines (and catera & saab 3.0 engines) now fitted before the heads go back on
Image
Heads now back on and my nice shiny cam covers now installed too
Image
Need to order some cam seals as I forgot them from the shopping list
Then there's not much else left until transplant day
